1. Is the Fluorination technology affecting dimension of the plastic containers or bottles?

NIL effect on the dimension of the bottle & containers due to Fluorination technology. Fluorination of HDPE/PP Containers is basically a surface modification process which results in change of surface properties of polymer while bulk properties of fluorine treated plastic container / article remains unchanged.

2. How can we check whether HDPE/PP Containers are Fluorinated containers?

BSCPL marking a black sign on the bottom of the containers.

Customer can check the same at their end by appropriate testing. Consider the case of solvent stored in a plastic container. The permeation of the solvent through this container takes place due to the following steps:

  1. Wetting of the surface by the permeating liquid.
  2. Dissolution of the solvent into the polymer.
  3. Diffusion of solvent through polymer and
  4. De-sorption / Evaporation of the liquid through the polymer.

Hence the permeability rate of liquids through polymeric substrate / container is a function of various parameters.

The Fluorination changes the characteristics of the polymer in terms of polarity, cohesive energy density and surface tension. This in turn as a major effect in reducing the wetting, dissolution and diffusion of non-polar solvents relative to the polymer.

Thus, fluorination is effective in minimizing the permeability of non-polar solvents through a polymer surface.

3. Fluorinated containers can be printed directly?

BLOOMSEAL fluorination technology results in a great enlarge in the surface energy and hence substantial increase in adhesion properties, therefore fluorinated plastic article / container can be directly printed.

4. If we applied Fluorination process twice on a HDPE/PP container; do we get a better barrier?

There is a small increased in barrier properties of a Containers.

5. Fluorinated containers are approved by CIB (Central Insecticide Board), BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) & FDA (Food Drugs administrator)?

6. How Bloomseal Fluorinated containers can be used to pack Agrochemical Products?

Bloomseal fluorinated HDPE / PP Containers are widely used for Packing of Pesticides, Insecticides, Herbicides chemicals because of very high barrier properties & compatibility with most of the pesticides or insecticides and absence of nuisance of outdated packaging material i.e. Metal. Biologically active chemicals are also packed in fluorinated plastic containers to protect indelicate & active ingredients of the product.

7. How Bloomseal Fluorinated containers can be used for flavors (food product) and fragrances (non-food products)?

Food processors find that providing only the oxygen barrier is not sufficient, as flavour losses may render containers unacceptable. Polyolefin materials usually lack in oxygen and flavor barrier properties. While the problem of oxygen barrier may be solved using conventional multilayer containers, the flavour still escapes through these container wall by way of scalping.

Flavors and fragrances are mixtures of many volatile complex organic compounds, usually present in ppm or even at ppb level; which impart aroma as well as taste to the food product that we eat.

Flavor loss may occur due to three ways; absorption of flavour/fragrance in to the plastic containers, due to migration of plastic additives into the product or due to oxidation of the product by ambient oxygen.

In such application Fluorinated Bloomseal plastic containers offer excellent flavour barrier for a wide range of flavors. Fluorinated containers are inert and resistant to most of the organic flavour and fragrances, hence are used to pack these chemicals or solvents which otherwise would require metal or glass contain.

Fluorinated containers are recommended for use in packaging of juice, tea, coffee, spices, and syrup flavors etc. which require very high flavour barrier properties. Also, the same applies for plants extracts e.g. vegetables, fruits etc.

8. How Bloomseal Fluorinated containers can be used for Automotive Fuel and Fuel Additives?

Fluorinated plastic containers are recommended for packing of Automotive Fuel and Fuel Additives. The loss of the fuel is minimum when they are packed in Fluorinated containers.
